Emeteole insists Heartland underachieved

Heartland technical adviser, Kelechi Emeteole has said his side were not equitably rewarded in the clash against Nembe City.

The Naze Millionaires won 2-0 against Nembe City in Wednesday’s Glo Premier League match day 28 encounter at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

A goal in each half from substitute, Emeka Ogbugh in the 45th minute and forward, Bobby Clement in the 47th minute proved adequate to hand the Owerri outfit the three points at stake.

Emeteole said his wards performance was good enough to have earned them a wider goal margin in the encounter.

“They deserved more than the 2-0 goal margin win in the encounter against Nembe City as the goals could have justifiably gone as high as six unreplied goals if they had converted all their chances.

“However my interest is mainly how my wards achieve their victory and in this case they played very well to deserve the win.

“I’m satisfied with the victory as it boosts our confidence and morale going forward in other matches especially the next one at our next door neighbours, Enyimba.

“I’m keenly looking forward to another good performance at Enyimba given the five-star performance in the game against Nembe City once we’re able to get fair officiating,” said the former El-Kanemi Warriors coach to supersport.com.

Emeteole said he has not promised anybody quick trophy in the ongoing league season but will prefer to build solid team that will stand the test of time.

“I understand people want quick victory however, I’ve told everyone not to expect trophy at the ongoing league season but if it came very well then.

“We’re building a team, a team when finally built will be able to win trophy and compete favourably at the continent.

“Although the case here has seen undeserving team win the trophy but failed woefully to represent the country well on the continent,” said Emeteole.

The victory against Nembe City takes Heartland points haul to 40 from a possible 84 in the 28-week old Nigerian top flight.
