Stoke City attacker, Peter Odemwingie has confirmed that he has had successful knee surgery.

The attacker picked up an injury on 30 August during Stoke’s 1-0 win over champions, Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in a feisty Premier League clash.

Odemwingie took to Twitter to announce that he had had surgery on his injured knee and that the procedure was successful.

“Heard we won and @muniesa92 scored twice! What a day and win!! More good news for us Potters as my surgery today also went well,” he tweeted via @OdemwingieP.

Meanwhile his friend and teammate at the Super Eagles, Ogenyi Onazi has revealed that he has been offering words of support to the former Lokomotiv Moscow striker.

“When a player gets injured, so many things cross his mind. You begin to ask yourself so many questions.

“I know what he’s (Odemwingie) going through so I called him and encouraged him.

“We became really close during the (2014 Fifa) World Cup and the friendship has continued,” Onazi told supersport.com.

Odemwingie, who is not expected to play again competitively this year, believes Stoke can cope in his absence.

“We have a strong squad that will do great in the league and I will be back well in time for the Wembley finals,” he noted.
