The speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was on Wednesday, October 3, elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa Federal Constituency in Bauchi state.

Dogara was elected by all the 325 delegates from the constituency ahead of the 2019 general elections. Tribune reports that all the constituency party delegates unanimously affirmed Dogara as the sole candidate of the PDP during the party’s primaries held in Zwall town of Tafawa Balewa local government of the state.

Conducting the exercise, the returning officer of the party, Esther Ahmed-Kadala asked the respective delegates from the three local governments that make up the federal constituency a question and they unanimously answered in the affirmative. Declaring Dogara as the winner of the primaries, Ahmed-Kadala said the speakers position has been confirmed through voice affirmation.

She added that the constitution of the party provided that where there is a sole aspirant for any position, the delegates must affirm it through voice. While congratulating Dogara for his emergence as sole candidate for the constituency, the returning officer also commended the delegates for their orderly conduct during the primaries.
