The Abia state government has disclosed that it has not received any ecological fund since the inception of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration.

Speaking when the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu paid a visit to the Isuikuwuato gully erosion site on Thursday, the Commisioner for Environment, Dr. Aham Uko, stated that the federal has not disbursed ecological fund.

“No state has received ecological fund. The federal Government has refused to disburse. They said they want to review what transpired some years ago. That some states where favoured and others were not. That they need to review and that review have been ongoing in the past three years,” he said.

In his reaction, Governor Ikpeazu said the state government will approach the federal government for intervention even as it makes alternative plans to ease the plight of commuters.

“What we need to do is to make a case where necessary while we look for alternatives. We can’t draw the conclusion that they’ve refused to help until we approach them,” he said.

The Governor, however, promised that palliative will commence immediately.

Recall that the state government had repeatedly called on relevant agencies of the federal government, including NDDC, Ministries of Environment and Works for rescue by performing their constitutional duty of care to the hardworking and peace loving people of Isuikwuato and Abia State through the declaration of the area and others in the state similarly threatened as ecological disaster zones requiring urgent critical intervention.
