King Otuwa the 1st, the traditional ruler of Amaoba-Ime community in Ikwuano local government area of Abia state, has cried out over the rising cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the community.

The traditional ruler explained that the security situation in the community had taken a dangerous toll whereby students and workers residing in the area were being assaulted and raped on a daily basis.

King Otuwa, made this known in an chat with DAILY POST, in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, on Monday night.

According to the monarch, “the security situation in Amaoba ime community is terrible. Kidnapping, raping and arm-robbery are now the order of the day. It has become a daily occurrence. These are crimes the people of our community are experiencing.

“The community is no longer safe for the students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. Most of the students are residing in the community. Even those working in Research Institute, the community is not safe for them”.

Asked if the community had lodged formal complaint over the incidents, King otuwa said, “the community will nab the criminals and take them to the police, and the police will release them on bond, and they will come back to the community again to commit more crimes.

“Then, the police come back, pick them up and take money from them, and release them. It is a kind of business for the police”.

He called on the law enforcement agencies in the state to work closely with the community in order to quell the criminal activities in the area.

“We want the law enforcement agencies to work closely with the Amaoba-ime community to make sure all these criminals are put in jail, not just take money from them, and release them, and the criminals will come back and do more dangerous things”.
