Abia launches operation 'Pick used water-proof and get paid'

The Governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie IKpeazu has flagged off the operation Pick Used waterproof in Aba and get Paid, a campaign programme that is in line with the pilot activities of the State Anti-Mosquito breeding campaign.

Flagging of the programme, the State Governor who was ably represented by Dr. Aham Uko the Commissioner for Environment at Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology Aba, said that the present administration is fully committed to the task of providing healthy and conducive environment for Abians, which is the reason for the numerous construction of roads going on across the state with durable drainage network, especially in Aba. He called on all to ensure they always compliment Government laudable gesture by being law-abiding and maintain all government investments in their domain, which include not dumping of refuse in the constructed drainage network all over the State.

Earlier in his opening remark the Chairman of the occasion Rt. Hon Uzo Azubuike, the Commissioner for Agriculture commended the State technical committee on Abia Numero Uno Agenda, office of the Governor for the great and laudable initiative and called on all to support the Abia State Anti-mosquito breeding campaign by ensuring they cultivate the habit of picking up waterproof in their environment and to ensure that all the drainage constructed by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is kept clean and free from stagnated waters to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

Chief Uzo Azubuike also charged the management Staff and Students of Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology Aba to be the first line mangers of the program by educating and sensitizing the public on the essence of a clean a clean environment and used the opportunity to call on those without Permanent Voters Card to visit any of the INEC office in their Local Government council to obtain their Voters Card to enable them vote Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu again for a second term to enable him to sustain the good works going on in all the sectors of the State economy.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the programme Nnafor Nwachukwu said that the aim of the Operation pick “Used Waterproof” in Aba and Get Paid! Is to prevent blockage of Aba drainage network, distort mosquito breeding and to imbibe the culture of environmental hygiene and cleanliness.

In their separate speeches, the Executive Chairman of Aba North LGA, Prince Stanley Ogbonna, the Aba North PDP Women Leader, Mrs. Udochi Emejiaka and Chief Felix Emeluga assured of the support and cooperation of the good people of Aba in the actualization of the campaign against the breeding of Mosquitoes in Aba.
