As the date for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) election draws near, some of the candidates into the board are kicking against the choice of Warri as the venue.

Fact News gathered that some candidates, especially those from the South-South and South-East zones of the country are kicking against the choice of Warri by the electoral committee and want the elections shifted to a neutral venue.

Investigation by Tribunesport revealed that the candidates are not comfortable with the choice of Warri and as a result, are calling on the electoral committee and the NFF executive committee to prove their sincerity by moving the poll, scheduled for September 30 away from the Delta State capital.

One of the candidates who spoke with Tribunesport on the condition of anonymity argued that the NFF and the electoral committee’s decision to hold the election in Warri was a ploy to favour one of the presidential candidates, believed to be the favourite of a strong member of the outgoing NFF executive committee board.

Another candidate from the South-South, said: “Though the venue of the election and AGM had been fixed before now, I think there is the need for the venue to be changed since a presidential candidate is from the state. A change of venue will give other candidates a level playing field.”

The candidate added: “How do you expect a free and fair election when an election is held in the sitting room of a candidate? We would appreciate it if the venue of the election is shifted to a neutral ground and preferrably Abuja, so that other candidates will have a sense of belonging and feel secure during the election.”

Also, a presidential aspirant from the North kicked against the choice of Warri and thus called for a change of venue, saying that he is not sure there will be free and fair election if held in Warri.
