Abia CJ Suspension: Applauding Agbazuere's 'Rescue' Pettition

Justice Theresa Uzokwe, the suspended Chief Judge of Abia State, is relatively unknown to me. Though I don't fancy Abia judiciary hence it retrogressively reflects the decaying system entrenched in the state by its allied operators, nothing serious about that arm of government in my dear state has ever evoked my attention.

However, the show of shame that recently but ridiculously greeted Abia judiciary, which spirally got both the legislature and executive enmeshed, has momentarily beckoned as well as provoked my attention. This unfortunate but sad development has for the past few days railroaded me into reading several reports as per developments and incidents in Abia Judiciary as well as asking specific questions bothering largely on the antecedents of Justice Uzokwe vis-a-vis what she represents as a judicial officer and head of the judiciary in Abia State.

After juxtaposing my findings, which emanated from an independent but unbiased investigation with the letters of the 'explosive' petition authored by Barr. A.C.B Agbazuere, I was, however, moved to draw the following conclusions;

1. That Abia State Judiciary under Justice Theresa Uzokwe has not administratively fared well since her appointment as the substantive Chief Judge.

2. That Justice Uzokwe's real character and attitude have disastrously manifested in the leadership style she employs in running the affairs of Abia Judiciary. That could also account for the very reason she violently goes for the jugular of whoever that stands her way.

3. Though Justice Uzokwe is heading an independent arm of government, the Judiciary, she appears to have failed, perhaps in a brazen manner, to recognize Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Ph. D as the HEAD of Abia State Government.The Executive Governor of Abia State, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is and remains the head of the entire Abia State Government of Nigeria.

4. That Justice Uzokwe has failed to show gratitude of any form to the system that employed, nurtured, promoted and appointed her Chief Judge upon a defeaning allegation that she is not from Abia either by birth or marriage.

5. That the public 'show of shame' as enunciated by Barr. A.C.B Agbazuere in his strong-worded petition to Abia State House of Assembly and alleged financial impropriety are enough grounds to activate her suspension pending the final outcome of the investigation.

6. That the Speaker and members of Abia State House of Assembly acted in good faith and within the ambit of the constitution and its extant powers by suspending the ChiefJudge to enable further investigation on the allegations leveled against her by the petitioners.

7. That, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu Ph.D also acted within the ambit of his constitutional powers by swearing in the Acting Chief Judge to adminitratively fill the vacuum occasioned by the suspension of the substantive Chief Judge.

8. That NJC should investigate all allegations of misconduct and corruption leveled against the suspended Chief Judge in the overall interest of Abia judiciary, Abia State, Abia State Government, Abia People, Nigerian Judiciary and Nigeria as a nation. The war against corruption must be fought and won at all fronts.

9. That rather than engaging the state legislature and executive into a fruitless and ill-advised legal battle or malicious confrontations, Justice Uzokwe should better avail herself the readiness of defending all that have been leveled against her in the said petition.

Finally, let me commend and applauded in a dignifying manner, the boldness and patriotism exhibited by my brother, friend and ally, Comrade(Barr) A.C.B Agbazuere for his timely and well-intended petition that formed the nexus for the suspension of the Chief Judge. My dear Agbazuere, you have always fought against injustice, moral decadence and oppression in our society. I am not surprised that while many were enveloped by cowardice and shivering fear, you conspicuously stood out to be counted. Posterity and history shall remember you as that fearless lawyer, activist and social crusader whose well-thought-out intervention saved Abia Judiciary and Abia State from the highhandedness and suffocation of Justice Theresa Uzokwe.

Thanks and God bless you all.
