Ikpeazu pardons nine inmates

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has told nine inmates serving various jail terms in Abia and other parts of the country to take advantage of their release to be good citizens of Nigeria. Ikpeazu had granted amnesty to the inmates, asking them to go and sin no more.

In a release singed by Commissioner for Justice and Chairman, State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Umeh Kalu (SAN) on behalf of the state government said that the release of the prisoners was in commemoration of the 2017 Christmas and 2018 New Year celebrations respectively. According to the release, the inmates whose names were not made public and convicted in Abia State’s courts and were serving various jail terms at the Enugu, Aba, Umuahia and Kirikiri, Lagos prisons respectively for stealing, advance fee fraud and assault.



It also said that two of the inmates had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment, while a female murder convict, had her death sentence commuted to a pardon with an order made for her release. The release reads: “The other six prisoners were granted total pardon and also ordered to be released forthwith.
