Two communities in Anambra State were on Friday reportedly sacked by flood following two days continuous down pour.

NAN reports that several houses were submerged while other valuable properties worth millions of naira were also damaged by the flood in Umueze Village in Isuaniohca Awka North Local Government and Ojobi Umunya in Oyi Local Government Areas of the state.

According to Charles Okonkwo, a worker at a commercial bank in the area who is also a victim of the flooding, the rain started on September 11 to September 12. He said he had to sleep in his car after his apartment was submerged by flood.

Okonkwo, however, attributed the incident to poor drainage system constructed by the firm handling a road project in the area.

He blamed the incident on poor drainage system constructed by the firm handling a road project in the area.

Another victim, who is a nursing mother, said it was by the grace of God that she and her family are alive.  She said the flood completely took over their house on Friday night, while another victim, Anthony Okonkwo, confirmed that it was his one storey building that saved the lives of most residents who ran to the place for safety with their children.

He also blamed the incident on the ongoing road construction project in the area, and urged the government to solve the problem.

Two other Victims, Nicholas Osai and Bethram Chukwuma also blamed the flood on the poor drainage from a neighbouring community to Isuaniocha, while a mobile police officer, Christian Ndubueze, and Donates Okafor revealed that they lost important documents and other valuable to the flood.

A victim at Ojobo Umunya community, Eric Obi, said the rain took them unaware, and called on Governor Willie Obiano to assist victims by prevailing on the contractor handling the road project to construct drainage into Elemabo stream in order to avert a repetition of the ugly incident.

It would be recalled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, announced that the bridge linking Ibilo and Lampese communities in Edo State have been washed off by flood after a heavy downpour.
