Monkey pox: Abia launches prevention programme

Healthiness and a healthy society is a cardinal enabler to driving and stimulating any economy, hence Governor Okezie Ikpeazu's stance on not just treating issues bothering on health with kids gloves, but also remaining utilitarian about it.
This probably accounts for the Abia state Government making health one of the pillars of it's economic growth as a healthy society inevitably results to a rapid social economic growth.
In Aba nay Abia State, the people are known for commerce and industry which entails exchanging of goods and services, pleasantries through handshake, hugs etc which is one of their show of hospitality.
However, fears gripped into some persons in the State with the recent outbreak of the monkey pox which had gained entrance into some neighboring State to Abia.
But the Abia State Governor, who knows the onions of his job and the importance of the lives of average Abians and visitors alike, rose up to the challenge to quell such situation.
It could be recalled that with the outbreak of similar cases in the country, the Abia State government built two virology centers in Amachara Hospital in Umuahia and the other at the Abia State teaching hospital, Aba.
Going forward, to arrest the infectious viral disease, Abia state Government has made provision of specially produced high alcohol content hand sanitizer and distributed same to traders and marketers across Abia State who attend to customers from within and outside of Abia State, including monkey pox infected area to enable the traders in the market make use of the sanitizer as one of the strategies to help preventing the scourge from entering the State.
Handing over the materials to the market leaders in the State, the Special Adviser to the Governor on health, Mr. Felix Chinwendu Joe maintained that the material are to be distributed to the traders, free off charge and urged any group or leaders that has a need for the sanitizers to apply for it for immediate distribution of the materials to them.
He noted that Governor Ikpeazu will do all within his powers to ensure the wellbeing of the entire Abia populace and asked them to remain supportive to the State Government.
Speaking also, Mr. Izuchi Nwosu likened such disease as leprosy and ironically asked them to make use of the sanitizer to prevent every political, Socio-Economic and spiritual leprosy from invading Abia State.
In his reaction, Comr. Emeka Emechebe, the president of Abia State Marketers Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), thanked the governor for coming to their aid in that regard and maintained that such gesture will reduce the fears in the markets. He pledge the unflinching and unalloyed continued support of the market traders to the Governor Of Abia State.
