The House of Representatives has on Thursday, condemned the threat issued to Ndigbo by Arewa youth to vacate the North within 90 days, insisting that Nigeria must remain one and cautioned the warring parties to stop fuelling division.

The House resolution followed a motion brought under a “matter of urgent public importance” by Hon. Oghene Emma Egoh during plenary.

The lawmaker cited “recent developments which prompted the Biafra agitators to call for the return of the Igbos back home as well as the northern Arewa Youths which issued an ultimatum to the Igbos to vacate the north before October 1, 2017”.

The House noted that the campaign by IPOB for the actualisation of the Biafra Republic had led to the shut down of major towns in the South-east on May 30.

The lower chamber urged all security agencies to be at alert in order to prevent unscrupulous elements from taking advantage of the unpatriotic pronouncements.

The green chamber also called on the federal government to immediately intervene to avoid the loss of lives and properties which the threats might cause.
