Abia First Lady Commends NEWMAP for community intervention project

Wife of Abia state Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, has commended the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP, for their community intervention projects across the state.


Mrs. Ikpeazu who made the commendation at Umuoleghe Azuahia, Amuzukwu Ibeku Umuahia during the official flag-off ceremony for the distribution of the low/carbon efficient cook stoves said that the stoves will reduce the use of firewood and air pollution.


The wife of the Governor represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor Lady Vivian Ude Okochukwu disclosed that it will also reduce deforestation, diseases and death caused by use of firewood.


The Governor’s wife stated that the state government is committed to programmes that will uplift the welfare of Abians and commended the NEWMAP for driving the project.    


In his speech, the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Gab Igboko said “human activities in the environment has created a lot of devastation hence the introduction of bio-fuel stove to create awareness for protection of the environment and varying eco-system.”    


Speaking earlier, the Project Coordinator Mr. Izuchukwu Onwuhara stated that the project of the state supported by the World Bank under NEWMAP is aimed at reducing deforestation and its environmental hazards adding that it is part of what Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is doing to make life easy for all Abians.

    
 Responding, on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Harriet Samuel thanked the state government and the NEWMAP for their kind gesture and prayed for the leadership of this administration.
