Schools to resume mid-September

The earlier postponement of schools’ resumption across the country for October 13by the Federal Government has been changed to middle of this month.

The federal government on Wednesday in Abuja announced the new development following the improvement in the management and control of the disease.

The earlier declaration which was made due to the increasing outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Nigeria according to Health Minister’ Onyebuchi  Chukwu’  said the federal Executive Council (FEC) which met at the State House choose to review the order on resumption date based on advice from the health experts that the disease has been substantially contained.

Onyebuchi said that President Jonathan had since the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria made an update on it a mandatory feature of the FEC meeting and it has been adjudged safe for schools to resume in the next few days following positive development in containing the spread in Nigeria.

Chukwu said the exact date of the resumption would be decided and announced by the federal Ministry of Education after its meeting with state commissioners of Education.

 He said only two patients were currently being treated in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
