The Chief Security Officer to Abia State Governor, SP Emeka Ubani says community policing, if implemented in synergy with our youth, the ever increasing case of kidnapping, youth insurgency, and other related crimes will be drastically reduced in our communities.

Ubani made this disclosure in a skill acquisition and leadership training organized by the ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with Karibe Ojigwe Foundation, held at the Kanu Nwankwo in-door sports hall, Umuahia Township stadium.

While speaking on a topic titled “Youth and Community Policing”, Ubani noted that Nigeria community in particular has been faced with serious security challenges and governments at all level are making conscious efforts in policy formulation.

He further enumerated the importance of community policing. In his words:

“Community policing gives citizen more control over the quality of life in the community.

“It changes the perception of community from parochial culture to more participant approach on security matters.

“It further reduces fear in the community and improves police community relations.”

Ubani added that it is not the function of the State government alone to determine security operatives for the people; rather, it is the people who should have the final say in deciding their own security.

On achieving an effective policing, Ubani said: “The locals are expected to voluntarily, with the aid of the traditional institution, select youth of unquestionable characters who will partner with the police to solve their own communities’ security challenges.
