Abia State Govt. Dissolves State’s Judicial Service Commission

The Abia State Government has dissolved the State’s Judicial Service Commission. The dissolution followed an investigation on a petition filed by a member of the public on a sentence given in error against one of his siblings. 

While briefing newsmen, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Cosmos Ndukwe said the decision to dissolve the judicial service commission was informed by result of investigations against the Chief Magistrate of Osisioma Court 1, Mrs. Uzoma Ukeje, which were not properly handled.

The Deputy Speaker said the investigations further revealed that Mrs. Ukeje used a forged birth certificate to remain in service, when she was supposed to have retired as at August 2015, hence, her compulsory retirement.

The retired magistrate among other things was mandated to refund all the monies collected by her from the time of due retirement. He said the judicial commission was dissolved because members of the commission failed to handle the matter brought before them appropriately.

The Deputy Speaker of state House of Assembly also revealed that the 7thHouse in the past one month has passed three laws which include the Abia State 2016 Local Government Appropriation law, 2016 Nigeria Education Authority Law, No 9.

According to the Deputy Speaker, some of the new bills undergoing consideration are the Aba Urban Development Agency Bill 2016, Abia State Marketing Agency Bill, Abia State Oil facilities and maintenance law, Abia Customary Court Bill, and School to land bill 2016.
