The Senator representing Bayelsa East Constituency in the Nigerian Senate, Ben Bruce has called on the ministries of transport and agriculture to raise up to their responsibilities to ensure an end to economic recession especially in the areas of food production and transportation in Nigeria.

Speaking on the floor of the senate during a special session of the National Assembly Bruce said the ministers should come up with a policy that could reduce the sufferings of the people.

According to Bruce, while the prices of beans, rice and Garri which are major staple foods have increased astronomically, the minimum wage of civil servants remains at #18,000.

Bruce revealed that between 2015 and 2016 the price of beans and Garri went up by 50 and 70 percent.

He said transportation cannot be blamed for the increase in price of agriculture produce, because the transporters make use of diesel which has long been deregulated.

According to him, the solution is in having a transport policy across cities in Nigeria.
He also noted that the presidency should change its approach in the fight against corruption, which he said has also affected the growth of the economy because of fear by investors.

The special session of the senate focused mainly on finding a solution to the economic recession.
