There appears to be a ray of hope and end to the sufferings of the people owing to the deplorable condition of roads in the state especially roads flagged off for construction including Faulks and Ubakala Roads in Aba and Umuahia, awarded to Setraco and Arab Contractors.

This is coming as the Commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani says both the technical and financial bid with the contractors have been concluded. He stated this in a chat with newsmen at Umuahia.,the Abia State Capital.

Abia State Government had earlier in the year flagged off the construction of two major roads which were of economic importance to the state, the Ubakala Road, which is a major link road for visitors coming in from neighbouring states and and Faulks Road, which leads to Ariaria International market. These two roads at flag off were awarded to Setraco and Arab Contractors. Hence, raising the hope of a better road infrastructure that would aid business development in the state.
For months now, the roads have remained without attention raising questions as to why the flag off.

The Commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani has however, assured Abians that the contractors would soon return to site as both the technical and financial bid needed to formalize the contract have been concluded.
He noted that the state in a bid to achieve a longer and durable road had to engage the services of reputable foreign firms, which he said takes a lot of planning to achieve.

Ubani stressed that the era of short time strategy and palliative measures in road reconstruction in the state is over,as the present administration is determined to give the state a face lift especially in areas of road infrastructure.

The Commissioner expressed regrets that people living in these deplorable roads have to go through pains but appealed to them that the pains would soon be over.

On Osisioma -Ekeakpara road, he said the road which is a Federal Road was awarded sometime ago but was abandoned by the contractor, but revealed that the road was included in the 2017 budget of the state.

He however, expressed displeasure that Abia is surrounded by Federal roads which are supposed to be blessings but have turned otherwise.

The works boss, called on Abians to join hands with the government in moving the state forward, noting that 15 months is not enough to turn the fortunes of the state around.
