Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has inaugurated the defense exercise of the state government's budget for 2017 fiscal year.

Speaking at the flag off in Umuahia, the Governor said that "the budget for 2017 is being themed 'Budget of Prudence and Self Reliance',

"And this budget is suppose to be an extension of our activities in this outgoing year which is in furtherance of our bid to implement of state government's five pillars.

"The era of wastages and duplications of programmes by Ministries have been receded to the background as state government would not permit any form of leakages."

He said that the current economic situation had raised the need for states to show resilience as well as explore other avenues for revenue generation.

Ikpeazu expressed believe that Abia could achieve significant development, when the people of Abia concentrate efforts in areas of comparative advantage over other states.

The governor urged the permanent secretaries of each Ministry to ensure that their budgets reflected programmes that had direct bearing on Abia government's five pillars.

Earlier, Mrs Adanma Iheuwa,Permanent Secretary of Abia State Planning Commission, said that the budget would be a road map for the 2017 fiscal year and the principles of sagacity would be applied.

Iheuwa said that the allocation of the state's resources would be programmes that would enable the state government to produce a realistic budget for increased socioeconomic transformation.
