Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has promised that his administration will work with the federal government and the private sector to give Ndigbo access to high sea to improve import-export, and other trade and commerce activities which the region is known for.
Governor Ikpeazu said that his government is working with private investors to open the Azumiri Blue River in Ukwa West area of the state, which will give Abia and Ndigbo direct access to the Atlantic Ocean.
"My administration is working hard to provide an access to the sea for Ndigbo at Obuaku in Ukwa East LGA through a private investor. We are also working with supportive federal agencies and relevant maritime organizations to ensure this is realized within the shortest possible time."
The Governor stated that Ndigbo are major stakeholders in the Nigerian project and will continue to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the country. According to him, "with access to sea Ndigbo will be able to do much more to support Nigeria's economic growth".
