Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has assured Abians of peace in the face of what he described as temporary setback to the State. He vowed to resist any attempt to disrupt  his mandate given freely to him by the people of the state.

Addressing newsmen at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, assured that the illegality of the court  will not stand, noting that it would be tested to the highest court in the land. Governor Ikpeazu maintained that he cannot be forced out of office without being given fair hearing, which is his fundamental right ad enshrined in the nation's constitution.

According to the Governor, the court injunction restraining the Chief Judge of the state or any other legal officer from Swearing In Mr. Uche Ogah as Governor must be obeyed. He maintained that he remains the Governor of the State.  He said the governorship position is not in contention, as no other person has taken the oath of office to lead the state.

Governor Ikpeazu said that Nigeria's democracy is on trial and the will of the people must prevail.

On tax falsification, the Governor maintained that as a civil servant that worked for the state government, his taxes were deducted from source and that the Board of Internal Revenue has sworn an affidavit to that effect. He said if there is any issue arising from payment of tax, it should be sorted out with the board and not him.

He commended Abia youths for avoiding the temptation of taking the laws into their hands in the face of the current political challenges and urged them to remain peaceful and law abiding pending the determination of the court.
