It was all excitement in the city of Aba, and particularly to indigenes and residents of Umuojima village, as the popularly known MCC road was renamed after a former deputy Governor of Abia state, Dr. Chima Nwafor by the Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

Late Dr Chima was a three time former Deputy Governor of Abia State and a renowned surgeon. He is also a native of Umuojima village.

Governor Ikpeazu while speaking, noted that changing the name of MCC road to Dr. Chima Nwafor road is historical as its root can be traceable to a worthy son of the soil. For him, it is a posthumous honour to a deserving personality who served his state with all humility and diligence.

The late Dr. Nwafor was the first Deputy Governor to the first Civilian Governor of the State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, from 1992 to 1993.

He was later appointed Deputy Governor under former Governor Orji Uzo Kalu in 2002 to complete Enyinnaya Abaribe's tenure, when Abaribe resigned.

In 2003, Dr. Nwafor was elected as Deputy Governor to Kalu during the second term of Orji Kalu, but died before the end of his tenure.

In recognition to his role and contributions in the struggle for the emancipation of Abia State, the late elder statesman was honoured yesterday.
