Governor Okezie lauds the contribution of churches to education

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, today attended the 14th convocation ceremony of Babcock University in Ogun State and praised churches and other private organizations for their immense contributions to enhancing the quality and availability of education in the country.

Governor Ikpeazu who was the special guest of honor at the event which also witnessed the 5th post graduate convocation was received on arrival by Pastor (Dr) Bassey Udoh, president of the Eastern Union Conference (ENUN) of the Seventh Day Adventist Church who is also the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University. 

The Governor who was accompanied by the former Deputy Governor of Abia, Chief Acho Eric Nwakama, in an interview with Factnewsonline lauded the church for their immense contributions to educational enhancement in the country. He described the graduates as "well rounded in knowledge, character and fear of God". 

Dr Ikpeazu who was formerly the Head of Biochemistry Department at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) called on the private sector to partner with his government in promoting education in Abia through endowment of chairs at Abia State University and other tertiary institutions in the state.

According to the Governor, "by investing in education the private sector will contribute to beneficial research work as well as good quality graduates that will power industries to greater profitability". 

He also highlighted the various programs his administration is pursuing to improve education in Abia State from primary to tertiary levels. These include the aggressive ongoing retraining of teachers by an Australian education services provision team, improvement in teachers welfare and the adopt a school program that has already delivered 4 projects in different schools as well as the inclusion of ICT studies in the state's educational curriculum to prepare Abia children for global competitiveness.
