Real Madrid Advance to Semi Finals of the UEFA Champions League, As Man City Makes History

Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday single-handedly lifted his team out of its mess and put them through to the UEFA Champions league semi finals with a stunning hat-trick. In addition, Manchester City broke their Champions league record by qualifying for the semis for the first time ever.

Madrid was trailing by two goals after a shocking defeat to Wolfsburg in Germany which surprised many and Madrid needed at least 3 goals to go through. The match started brightly with the home team searching for chances and it wasn’t long before Ronaldo struck, twice.

The ball fell to him after evading the Wolfsburg defence in the 16th minute and he stick it in. A minute later he headed in a goal deftly from the right hand corner to make it 2 – 0. He made it three from a free kick in the second half and Madrid held on afterwards to make the semis.

In the second game of the day, Manchester City defeated Paris St-German by a lone goal to make history. The sides had played a 2-2 draw in Paris in the first leg.

Manchester City had a glorious chance to go in front in the first half when Aguero was brought down in the 18 yard box. He however hit the resulting penalty off-target. Kevin De Bruyne however broke the tension in the 76th minute with a fine curling strike from the edge of the box. His goal put City a goal up.

Five minutes to go, Ibrahimovic scored put the ball in the back of the net but was ruled offside. The win makes City advance, the final score being 3-2.
