Abia State Government to Partner International Agencies on Health

Abia State Government has said it would partner with international agencies including the World Health Organization, WHO and United Nations Children Education Fund UNICEF to improve its health sector.
The Governor stated this when he received the United Nations agencies led by the state co-ordinator of the World Health Organization, Mr. Linus Eze Okoro at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House Umuahia.
Governor Ikpeazu who noted that with the attendant rains, attention would be shifted from road infrastructure to Health and Education, said his administration is open to ideas that would boost the health sector.
He said the upgrade of infrastructure at both primary and secondary health centers across the state is his priority, while commending the Ministry of Health for successes recorded so far especially in the area of routine polio immunization and Measles eradication. According to him, the collaborative efforts of the International Agencies and the state played a major role in the achievement of this.
The Governor said the provision of health is a strong social service which demands strong will and expertise and therefore expressed readiness to partner with the agencies to move the health sector to the next level.
He further assured of prompt payment of Abia counterpart funds as and when due.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu however, revealed that discussions are on with health experts to find interventionist approach to health especially through mobile hospitals to take care of emergency needs and specific situations.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Linus Eze Okoro said the state has recorded tremendous success in its health sector through the partnership with the WHO and UNICEF. He called for more commitments, while pledging to continously and vigorously support the state's health sector.
