Abia State Govt Sets Up Committee To Review Fees In ABSU And Abia Poly

Following complaints from students and parents of tertiary institutions in the state on high tuition fees and all manner of fees unknown to the government, the Abia State Government has set up committees to review the tuition fees of Abia State University and Abia State Polytechnic and recommend affordable fees. 

 

 

Abia State Commission for Information, Bonnie Iwuoha, while making the revelation at a press briefing said the government has appointed committees to be chaired by the Commissioner for Education, to quickly review the issues of fees paid in these institutions.

 

Also the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University was directed to forward all details of the fees charged in the institution, to enable the government take its decision.

 

On rumours making rounds that the Rector of Arochukwu College of Education Technical has been fired by the state government, the commissioner said due procedures were not followed and therefore, pending the decision of the government, the rector remains in charge of the institution.

 

 

 

 

On the ban on tricycle operators to stop activities by 7pm, the commissioner said the decisions were informed by intelligence reports and therefore urged all tricycle operators to abide strictly by the rules. He apologized for the inconveniences caused by the directive.

 

Iwuoha, further revealed that the Commissioner for Public Utilities has been directed to produce a perfect template for the installation of street lights in all the rehabilitated roads, to encourage healthy night life and discourage criminality.

 

 

Meanwhile, Wednesday February the 17th have been declared work free day to allow Abians converge at the Umuahia Township Stadium for the re-dedication of the state and thanksgiving service for the victory at the apex court.
