Pacesetter 103.5 Fm, a federal government radio broadcast outfit in Umuahia, the Abia State capital was on Sunday January the 24th gutted by fire, with broadcasting equipments worth millions of naira destroyed.factnewsonline was there to ascertain the level of damage done.

The once vibrant radio station in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, was in a shadow of itself. The more than ten offices broadcast edifice was razed by fire in the evening of Sunday, January the 24th.

The fire incident was said to have started by some minutes past five and lasted for hours, with the Nigeria Fire Service crew arriving about an hour later to curtail the incident which has already damaged all broadcast equipments, and official documents.

 The source of the fire outbreak is still unknown.

When factnewonline crew visited the scene, it was in rubbles and no pin was picked out from the station. A once vibrant station appeared like a grave yard. The staff were all looking perplexed as they seem to yet comprehend what could have led to the inferno.

Some staff who spoke on conditions of anonymity described the incident as disheartening and shocking as it was the least news expected of the year. They however, called on well meaning Nigerians and the state government to join hands in rebuilding the station, which they described as the federal governments mouthpiece in Abia state.

The station is said to be one of the few stations that has been making sure that Abians are kept abreast of current news in the country, among other stations in the state.


  At the time of filing this report, no senior official of the station was on hand to talk to factnewsonline.
