The Federal Government has charged six men with alleged abduction of a friend of Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, Alhaji Abu Dankure, who was said to have died 11 days after he was released in November 2013.

Their arraignment on five counts of terrorism act before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of a Federal High Court in Abuja was stalled on Friday.

This was because two of the accused persons had yet to procure the services of lawyers who would represent them.

The judge therefore adjourned the arraignment till September 26.

The accused persons are Mustapha Isah (31), Mohammed Bukar (31), Faruku Waziri (27), Usman Iddah (31), Mohammed Magaju and Zailani Tukur (52).

They were said to have kidnapped 70 years old Dankure at Sokoto Bye-pass on November 6, 2013, which was shortly after he returned from a medical trip abroad.

The driver of the deceased, Hussaini Turu, who was driving him during the kidnap, was said to be spared by the accused.

They allegedly released Dankure five days after, upon collecting $300,000 from his family as against N1bn they initially demanded.

They were said to have carried out the abduction in Sokoto, collected the ransom in Kwali Village in Abuja and proceeded to a hotel in Benin City in Edo State to share the proceed of the alleged crime.

However, the prosecution led by Mr. Magaji Labaran said it was unclear whether Dankure’s death which occurred11 days after his release, was as a result of the trauma caused by the act of the accused persons.

The prosecution also alleged that the accused were initially contemplating to kidnap father of the owners of Rhamaniyya Petroleum based in Sokoto until they later settled for Dakure, whom they believed was wealthier.
