Nigeria Retain 66th Position In FIFA Latest Ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles began the year 2016 by retaining its 66th position on the latest FIFA ranking. Nigeria also remained static on the African continent, at the 14th position

The Elephants of Ivory Coast retained its number one spot in Africa and 19th in the world, followed by Algeria and Ghana.

The Super Eagles are behind Congo DR, Uganda, and Mali. Belgium remained high on the table.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Team B played out a one all draw against Angola in a warm up ,match in Pretoria, South Africa, ahead of the 2016 CHAN.

Both teams used the match as preparation for the 2916 CHAN tournament which begins in Kigali, Rwanda on January 16th.

Nigeria will play a second warm up match against Cote D’Ivoire on January the 11th.

Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has insisted that his team is not ready for the 2016 CHAN Championship following their 1-1 draw against Angola in a warm up game on Wednesday.

Oliseh admitted the team played well.

He would face his first major task in charge of Nigeria at the tournament reserved for players who feature in their home leagues.

Officials of the team has however, disclosed that the team will observe a rest on Friday before resuming training ahead of their Cote D’Ivoire’s game on Monday.

Nigeria finished third on their CHAN debut two years ago in South Africa.

FIFA Under 17 world cup winning coach, Emmanuel Amuneke will tonight at the GlO-CAF awards battle Cote D’Ivoire Coach Herve Renard in the Coach of the year award.

While Renard led Zambia to win the 2012 AFCON in Gabon, Amuneke led Nigeria to win FIFA Under 17 World Cup in November in Chile.

The 2015 Glo-CAF awards will be aired live on African Independent Television, AIT, and Super Sports from the International Conference Centre, Abuja from 8pm to 10pm, Nigerian time.

The major highlight of the event will be the crowning of the African Footballer of the year.

Nigeria and Watford striker, Odion Ighalo have dedicated his 2015 Complete Sports player of the year award to God and his fans.

Ighalo scored 32 goals in 2015 for club and country including 14 goals in his debut season in the premier league so far.

He beat Obafemi Martins, Kelechi Iheanaco, Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen to the award and said the recognition will urge him to work harder.
