Abia State Government warns ministries, parastatals and agencies over revenue collection

The Abia State government has directed ministries and other agencies of government in the state to henceforth stop appointing revenue agents for the collection of government revenue.
The commissioner for Information and Strategy, comrade Bonnie Iwuoha disclosed this while briefing the press on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting at the government House.
According to him,a body headed by the state Deputy Governor has been charged with the responsibility of managing the revenue of the state, adding that government agencies that flout the directive will be sanctioned.
The commissioner stated that the state government approved the setting up of a task force on the vandalization of public utilities including electricity and water facilities in the state, warning that those caught in the act will be prosecuted as security personnel have been directed to apprehend such culprits.
The information boss further disclosed that Exco approved the resuscitation of schools of Nursing in the state so as to train quality personnel to man health facilities in the state and also directed the appointment of a visitation panel to the school of Nursing, Aba to investigate alleged negative activities in the school and report back to the government for further action.
He revealed that the government directed the ministry of Agriculture to set up two poultry villages at Item in Bende LGA and Ogwe in Ukwa West LGA to assist young entrepreneurs interested in poultry business and restated the state government’s resolve to engage in massive oil palm planting.
The commissioner disclosed that skills acquisition centres are to be established in all public and private schools in the state as skills acquisition is to henceforth be part of the curriculum of schools, pointing out that the aim is to help the young ones develop their talents at an early stage.
Comrade Iwuoha announced that from January 2016, admission of pupils and students in schools across the state will be based only on evidence of payment of tax by parents of such pupils and students and made public that a task force to monitor compliance will be set up and charged head teachers of schools to ensure compliance.
He said that henceforth only reputable companies will be awarded grade A roads in the state and disclosed that the government has directed the immediate commencement of the grading of at least two rural roads in all the wards of the state before the end of the month.
According to him, Exco approved the hosting of Enyimba mini carnival in Aba on the 20th -21stDecember to be tied to the Aba half marathon.
In her remark, the chairperson of the Enyimba carnival committee, barr Ngozi Nwangwa said the two-day cultural carnival is designed to introduce Aba to the world as well as to market the Abia culture.
