All is set for a former chieftain of Labour Party, LP, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Thompson Ayegunle and his supporters to dump the ruling LP for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Speaking on the defection, Ayegunle said hundreds of his supporters across the area will be received by leaders of the PDP in the state next Sunday, July 6.

He said they decided to join the opposition train in the state because of the internal democracy that is thriving in the party, adding that they do not want to be left out from the main stream of Nigeria politics.

Complimenting the efforts of the leaders of the PDP in the state to reposition the party and its membership drives, which he said has turned the party to a new bride in the state, Ayegunle expressed hope that the party will take over the state in the next election.

He noted that the emergence of the Ekiti governor elect, Ayo Fayose, pointed to the fact that PDP will soon win all the South-West states in the next general election, saying that the power of incumbency no longer works where people were tired of any government.

He said: “Fayose’s victory represents the true picture and interest of Ekiti people. The people have spoken and the mandate given to Fayose is the general opinion of all Ekiti people.”

He however said the party will achieve the feat in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun state.

Expressing optimism that PDP will oust Rauf Aregbesola in the election, he said: “God who has worked the victory of PDP in Ekiti State will also work out the victory in favour of PDP in Osun State.”

Calling on politicians to always fulfil their electoral promises, Ayegunle urged them to design economic empowerment programmes for the youths, women and the less privileged, noting that this will help to reduce or eradicate poverty in our society.

3It will be recalled that a former member of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Benson Enikuomehin, defected from the ruling LP in the state, citing politics of deceit as one of the reasons for his exit from the party.
