JUSTICE OPUTA CELEBRATED DURING BURIAL

Eminent jurists and Chairman of defunct Oputa Panel, Justice Chukwudifu Akunne Oputa, died at a ripe old age of 92 on May 4 2014 and has been mourned by all and sundry including his close associates such as Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto who was the Secretary of truth and reconciliation panel aka Oputa Panel. Bishop Kukah also conducted the funeral mass.

 

On Saturday, June 28, Justice Oputa was buried at his Oguta home town, in Imo State was preceded by a requiem mass attended by Governor T A Oji (Abia state Governor and Chairman of South East Governors Forurm), Chief Willy Obiano (Anambra State Governor) and the host governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha. President Goodluck Jonathan was represented at the event by Secreatary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim who also delivered a speech from the President. 

 

Several top government officials, political leaders, clergymen and representatives of the judicial arm were in attendance at the colorful event that started earlier in the week with a memorial event at Owerri hosted by Governor Okorocha.

His first son, Charles Oputa (aka Charly Boy) was on hand with family members to welcome guests to an event that can aptly be titled "a celebration of life".
