Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has vowed not to divert the expected bail funds to other projects.

Speaking during a live interview program with the state owned Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA), the governor who was answering questions on the activities of his government in the past 100 days described any such diversion as stealing.

"We will not divert bail out funds when they come, and they will likely come within 10 days. The bail out will be for pension and salaries arrears. If I divert the money to other use it is stealing, no need giving it any other baptismal name. By the end of October we expect that the issue of salary arrears will no longer be news in Abia."

The governor said the state saved more than N300m in two months through the ongoing staff verification exercise aimed at removing ghost workers from the state's payroll. Dr Ikpeazu vowed to sanction senior government official found culpable the criminal act of inflating the wage bill using ghost workers.

He thanked Abians for their strong support to his regime which is currently working on 31 roads in Abia with some already realised even in the midst of persistent heavy rainfall. The Governor stated that 7 of the roads are in Umuahia while others are at Abiriba, Arochukwu, Umunneochi, Abam and Aba which alone accounts for about 50% of the road construction work. He assured that with the innovative construction method introduced by his government, Aba roads will last longer, especially with the drainages being done in the rainy season.

Dr Ikpeazu said the Umuahia water scheme has been reactivated while work on the reactivation of Abiriba water scheme is expected to commence shortly. He also listed his government's intervention in other areas including agriculture and promised that starting from next year 400,000 palm seeds will be planted by Abia youths, including him.

He also praised the state owned university for producing two first class graduates from Law school this year. According to him, that and many feats achieved by Abia students indicate that the educational sector is doing well even though he expects to further improve on curriculum, infrastructure and training of teachers. He promised to use ICT to drive further growth in the educational sector and other areas of life in Abia state.

On his trip to Turkey with 27 tailors and cobblers, the governor stated that the objective was to expose them to high tech processes and equipment that will ensure that products from Aba will compete favorably at the global level. He promised to support Aba businesses to grow and reposition Abia as the number one state in commerce while creating jobs for the youths.
