Residents of Umuahia, the Abia State capital have lamented the hike in price of Kerosene.

Though the approved pump price per litre of Kerosene is 50 naira, investigations by factnewsonline  revealed that the product is currently sold at 150 naira per litre.
For some months now Nigeria has faced several economic challenges in the petroleum sector.
This experience has particularly affected the stability of petroleum products across the country.
One petroleum product that plays a vital role in the household of many Nigerian women is kerosene.
It is believed that a greater percentage of the country’s populace uses kerosene to cook.
However in the past one month the hike in the price of kerosene has continued to bite hard with kerosene selling for as much as 200 naira per litre in some parts of the State.

In Umuahia the story isn’t different as investigations carried out by factnewsonline revealed pockets of scarcity in areas visited in Umuahia.

Many Independent Marketers were without the products while some private marketers who had kerosene sold at 150 naira per litre.
A station manager, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the hike was due to scarcity of the product.
Some residents said the hike in price was quite disappointing following Nigeria’s capacity as an oil exporting country.
Some had resorted to the use of fire wood and charcoal.
They called on the government to look into the plight of the masses and stabilize the price.
With the hike in price of kerosene, it is expected that the Federal government would sets up task force to ensure that dealers sold at the official price of 50 naira per litre.
