Though President Muhammadu  Buhari may be delaying in appointing his cabinet, he seemed to have made up his mind about guy marriage.
Media Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina, revealed that at the four -day official visit of the  president to the US, the issue of gay marriage  was raised in one of the meetings of Monday July 21, but the President reacted by saying that "sodomy is against the law in Nigeria, and abhorrent to our culture ".

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Assistant Secretary of State on African Affairs had said that the US would continue to pressure Nigeria to legalize gay marriage, and to convince the country to repeal Legislation against the Lesbians Community .

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan pushed through the same sex marriage Prohibition Act, which has effectively banned gay marriage in Nigeria, and has criminalized public displays of affection by gay couples.  The act also imposes harsh penalties of 14 years imprisonment.
