Abia governor cuts his salary by 50%

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State this morning announced his decision to voluntarily cut his salary and allowances by fifty percent to further support regular payment of workers in the state.

The governor made the announcement while swearing in the newly appointed head of service for the state, Mr V. C. Uma, at the government house Umuahia. He promised to do whatever is necessary to ensure regular payment of salary for Abia workers and lamented the dwindling revenue of the country which has necessitated taking necessary measures to efficiantly manage the  resources of the states and fulfill the responsibilities of government to citizens.

Yesterday, the Governor inspeced ongoing drainage desilting works at Aba and charged the contractors to ensure that all drainage ways are opened immediately to enable free flow of water. He also inspected ongoing maintenance works along Aba Owerri road and other major roads at Aba.
