The Presidential Advisory Council on International Relations chaired by a former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku,Tuesday held it’s valedictory meeting to bid President Goodluck Jonathan farewell.

The council’s last meeting was held over breakfast at the president’s residence.
Speaking with journalists after the session, Mr. Anyaoku said that was the last time his committee members would be meeting with Mr. Jonathan as the president of the country.
He said the council used the opportunity of the meeting to commend the president for his decision to concede defeat in the March 28 presidential election even before the final results were released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to him, Nigeria owed Mr. Jonathan a debt of gratitude for not only conceding victory but for delivering credible elections.
He said the president’s gesture had earned Nigeria admiration and respect on the international scene.
“We had an excellent valedictory meeting,” Mr. Anyaoku said. “It was the last for our council. It was the last time we met with the outgoing president.

“We told him that our nation, Nigeria, owes him a huge debt of gratitude for what he has done in terms of the success of the elections and above all in terms of the gesture of picking up the telephone and congratulating the president-elect even before the final results of the elections were announced.
“That singular act has earned our country a great deal of admiration and respect abroad.
“We thanked him and congratulated him and wished him well in his future endeavour"
