NHIS to reduce medical trips abroad - President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the upgrade of government-owned tertiary hospitals will aid in curbing capital flight and reduce medical trips abroad by Nigerians.
The President who noted that the government is working towards widening the National Health Insurance Scheme to improve higher demand for services in public hospitals, added that with more communities benefitting from the scheme, the nation will experience better health outcomes.
He said about fourteen tertiary hospitals across the country have been renovated and re-equipped, while expressing optimism that Nigeria is committed to preventing a re-occurrence of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak.
In pursuance of the need to provide quality healthcare to Nigerians, the federal government introduced the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2006 with the formal sector programme, and launched Universal Health Coverage in 2014.
