Business man, Reagan Ufomba, the standard bearer of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the governorship seat of Abia in the coming State 2015 election, has kicked off his campaign at the Recreation Ground in Aba, Abia State.

Ufomba, who owns a cement packaging factory, was welcomed by a handful of party and Aba resident’s supporters. Prior to his arrival, he had paid homage to the chairman of Abia State council of traditional rulers, Eze Ewerenmadu, at his palace at Isi Ala Ngwa  Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

With that, his supporters expressed satisfaction that he rightly kicked off his campaign by starting from his base at Isi-ala Ngwa LGA. The APGA governorship candidate was accompanied on arrival by factional State Working Committee members of the party led by Nnanna Ukaegbu, state chairman of the party; as well as Some National Working Committee members led by National Deputy Vice Chairman, Chris Uche.

Also in attendance were the Association of Imo State indigenes resident in Aba; some traders’ associations; the Abia State APGA secretary and many other dignitaries who expressed support for the candidature of Ufomba. Seventeen APGA Chairpersons from 17 LGAs of the state were also in attendance.

In his speech, the Acting Vice Chairman narrated his previous alliance with former governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, all through to his emergence as Acting Vice Chairman. He said the time had come when change was needed in the state, particularly in Aba, the state’s business hub. He extolled what he called the good qualities of Ufomba and advised the electorate to help him and APGA bring positive changes to the state.

The Vice Chairman narrated how Alex Otti got into the party from the back door. In his words, he alleged that Otti connived with Victor Umeh (factional APGA leader of the party) to declare him the APGA Governorship candidate in Abia State when no primary election was held to that effect.

He claimed that Otti was not a registered party member of the party, both in his (Otti’s) ward and in the state.

He went further to say that an Abuja high court had earlier restrained Umeh from parading himself as APGA chairman few days before he declared Alex Otti as Abia State APGA governorship candidate. The APGA Vice Chairman therefore declared that Otti was not a member of APGA and as such could not be its candidate. He concluded that the only recognised Abia APGA governorship candidate has always been Reagan Ufomba.

After he was introduced, Ufomba was handed the APGA Flag as the party’s governorship standard bearer in Abia State. In his speech, Ufomba promised to fix all decaying infrastructures in the state like roads, drainage systems, and enhance security and business environment in the state. He promised to reduce, to the barest minimum, the various levies imposed on the state citizens. He pledged his unalloyed commitment to the development of Abia state in the coming years. He urged Aba residents to vote APGA during the 2015 general election.
