Crisis over Delta PDP primary

Three out of four People's Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants at yesterday's House of Assembly in Ethiope East, Delta State, have sternly warned against announcement of any result for that Local Government. That said there was no election in that Area.

The trio which includes the incumbent member, Hon. Joseph Oshevire, are calling for fresh elections. Speaking through different petitions addressed to the Chairman of the House Committee on Assembly Primaries, Mr Bernard Ochepa, they said the Returning Officer did not come with the original of the result sheet. "This angered the delegates who subsequently asked for the postponement of the primaries pending the availability of the original sheet".

The petitioners  - Chief Godwin Demide, Mr Enamutor Blessing and incumbent Joseph Oshevire, in their separate petitions, warned that should their "honest request be ignored, PDP will lose Ethiope East" as the members will alternatively vote for another party in the general elections.

They called on the National Working Committee of the Party, the State Governor and Chairman and other leaders of the party to take their warning serious and fix another date for the primaries. They alleged that the Returning Officer has already admitted not coming to the election venue with the original result sheet. ''We call on you to fix another date for the primary election to be supervised by credible personnel with complete materials including an original result sheet in order for Ethiope East PDP members to elect a candidate of their choice''.

Ethiope East is the home of Delta PDP's greatest opposition leader, Chief Great Ogboru. The LGA voted massively against PDP in the 2011 general elections at different levels.
