The meeting between the members of the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs and the Inspector General of Police,Suleiman Abba ended in a deadlock as the IG failed to recognise Tambuwal as the speaker but simply referred to him as Alhaji Tambuwal.

The meeting was expected to identify the reasons behind police actions on Thursday November 20 at the National Assembly. The gates of the National Assembly were reportedly shut against the lawmakers who devised other means of scaling through the fence to gain entrance into the green chamber of the National Assembly, after the men of the Nigerian Police were said to have used tear gas on the lawmakers.

In response the IG said those restrained from entering the gates were thugs. He said a political party had a day before the incident held a rally in Abuja where increminating words were used. The party were said to have gone to the police headquarters, placed a blockade and threatened more actions. This the IG said led to further security beef up at the villa,INEC and the NASS.

Abba, rather than accept that a tear gas was used, said the tear gas exploded, adding that it was his men that were traumatised, not the lawmakers.
He also claimed to have briefed the Sergeant-at-arms to the National Assembly and other principal officers earlier on the actions of the police.
Suleiman who consistently refered to Tambuwal as Alhaji said he cannot recognise him as the speaker because a case in court is still refered to as "subjudice" and as such he cannot comment on it.

The meeting came to an abrupt end as both parties stormed out of the house.
