IGP denies orderig the arrest of anyone in connection with NASS disturbance

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba has distanced himself from the arrest of anyone involved in what happened at the National Assembly on Thursday November 20, insisting that the decision to arrest anyone in connection with the incident lies solely with the officers saddled with the investigation.

 

This was contained in a statement by the force spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu.

 

Abba noted that " it lies with the police officers to determine who to invite, quiz and prosecute as the case may be".

 

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police has condemned what he described as "unwarranted attack" on police officers providing security at a political rally in Oke Ado,Ibadan, Oyo state.

 

A statement made available by the police says Abba has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, while warning politicians to desist from the use of thugs.

 

Abba who reaffirmed the resolve of the force to provide "a safe corridor for all political competitors, stressed that offenders would be punished accordingly..
