Senators yet to agree on state of emergency rule extension

The demand for emergency rule extension in the three northeastern states of Adamawa,Borno and Yobe is yet to recieve a nod by the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
The debate for the extension which started on Tuesday,November 18, had senators from the North vehemently opposing the extension.


After over two hours behind closed doors,the members of the red chamber resolved to continue the discussion on the extension today,with a resolve to invite all the Service Chiefs for a brief on efforts made so far at curtailing the insurgency.
The Senate President,David Mark was also mandated to contact the governors of the affected states for more information,as well as their input.
Meanwhile,the House of Representatives will have to cut down their recess to reconvene today to deliberate on the extension.


The State of Emergency rule which has been in effect in the 3 northeastern states since 2013 is expected to end today.
Despite the emergency rule,the Boko Haram Terroist group have continued their blood letting,bombings and attacks,which left thousands dead,many injured and several others displaced.
