Alex Otti, a gubernatorial aspirant in Abia State under the umbrella of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has assured Abia people of providing effective and functional leadership for them if elected after the 2015 polls.

In a chat with newsmen at APGA Secretariat in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the former bank chief executive said he was in the race to provide basic amenities of life to the people, including employment, infrastructure, and elimination of poverty, among several other things.

Otti who promised to build a state of the art shopping mall in Aba, the commercial hub of the state, said it would be in the same mould with those found in Dubai, the Arab emirate. He described Ariaria as having become an International market by name alone, but that in outlook it has regressed to a local market. Otti emphasised his determination to bring the market to international repute.

His words: "I think what is important is the leadership skills, the experience that I have, the acumen to run business, the creativity, and the ability to manage man and resources. Those are what I will bring to Abia State".

Going further, he declared that he had “what it takes to manage Abia State in 2015".

Speaking on his defection from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APGA, Otti said it was his personal decision to join his brothers in the Igbo race to change the story of Abia State. He likened APGA to a movement that resonates with the Igbo race.

While answering questions on zoning, the gubernatorial aspirant argued that it went against democratic principles, especially of competence and choice. "Zoning is inherently undemocratic, even though I understand what it’s trying to do; but inherently it contradicts the very essence of the ideology in the first place" he said.

Otti imputed that leadership and its responsibilities do not require zoning but a man who has the capacity, the competence, the training, and the network to do the job. He urged Abians to be prepared for a new wave of change in 2015.
