A non-governmental organization, Healing Hands Foundation, organized its very first “Eye and Medical Outreach” wellness initiative for the people of Ohafia, in Abia State as an introduction to what is predestined to be a key medical reference program in various communities across Nigeria.

The exercise, which was held at Amaekpu and Ebem, Ohafia respectively, provided a platform for men and women within the community and surrounding provinces to access medical help from doctors and other health professionals through the provision of drugs, breast/ prostate exams, eye exams, blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, standard health screenings, general medical consultations, and specialist consultations.

Founded by Mr. Ikenna Nicholas Ukwa & Mrs. Jennifer Enyidiya Ukwa, Healing Hands is a non-profit organization that was created for citizens of Nigeria and dedicated to the wellness of the “Whole Person.” Their vision is one of reforming healthcare through the foundation and providing reliable care to the citizens of this great nation. According to Mr. Ukwa, "It's our own way of giving back to society and showing that we care about the health of our people, especially those in the rural areas who may find it difficult to access adequate health care".

Mr. Ukwa emphasized the need for proper health care delivery in Ohafia and therefore called on other well-meaning Abians to join hands for the sake of our elderly and other vulnerable groups. He appreciated his wife and co-founder, Mrs. Jennifer Ukwa for her assistance in parts of the organization of the wellness initiative and for actively participating as a medical professional in all activities and services proffered by the foundation.

The outreach exercise recorded huge success with the provision of drugs and medical checks to over 1000 people in Ohafia, Ebem, Amaekpu, and surrounding villages.
