The engaging drama in the governorship race of Delta State continues to unfold. A People's Democratic Party Governorship Aspirant, Elder Godsday Orubebe, added to it today when he advocated for power shift to the Ijaw ethnic nationality in the state.

At his declaration today before a mammoth crowd in Asaba, Elder Orubebe said it is the turn of the Ijaws to rule Delta having supported the Urhobos and Itsekiris to install Governors. The former Minister whose governorship ambition has faced stiff resistance particularly from his kindred led by popular Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, said however, that he was not running on ethnic card.

He pledged to run an all-inclusive government that would encourage opposition no matter how dissenting. He said he believed that alternative voices and divergent opinions would encourage good governance and deepen democracy.

Continuing, Orubebe said that as a former Chairman of opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Delta State, during the government of Chief James Ibori, that he knew the importance of criticism to every government and would everything to encourage it.

On his pedigree, the former Minister boasted, "it is on record that I'm the only Minister in Nigeria who went into the creeks when the economy of the Country was dwindling as a result of Niger Delta insurgency which oil production and slept with the militants. I brought all the militants together and that was the beginning of peace and amnesty in that region".

He stated that the EastWest road which mostly constructed with borrowed funds through the African Development Bank, is about 80 per cent completed and would be fully constructed within a few months.

He promised to make all Delta youths self-reliant within one year if voted into office. While urging all to believe in him, the aspirant said, "I have done well so far and I believe this is the time for Nigeria to tell me you have done well. I will make Delta proud."
