Over the weekend, the Abia state ministry of youth development organized a One-day skill acquisition and leadership training in collaboration with the Karibe Ojigwe Foundation at the Kanu Nwakwo in-door sports hall, Umuahia township stadium.

The event had in attendance youths from the 17 Local Government areas of Abia state.

In what turned out to be an impactful and a well-organized event, the Permanent secretary to the Ministry of Youth development, Ugoeze Ifeyinwa  Uwasomba, said the event is in line with the state government's progams for Abia Youths.

Ugoeze stated that the event is in commemoration of the 2016 international youth Day.

“There was supposed to be an event to celebrate the 2016 International youth Day, for some reasons we decided to host it in November. Karibe Ojigwe Foundation has been partnering with th Ministry of Youth Development. So when we were ready for this event, we decided to collaborate with the foundation. And as you can see the event is turning out beautifully, much more than we had expected.”

Speaking further, Ugoeze noted that there are so many plans the government has for the youth that are yet to be unveiled, but will gradually be unfolded to the maximum benefit of Abians.

“Our Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has so many good plans for Abia youth. We are only aiding in the execution of those plans. There is this youth in Agriculture program that is ongoing. There is also the youth empowerment program in collaboration with CBN which had already taken place. There are a whole lot yet to be unveiled for Abia youths. We hope that Abia youth will maximize each opportunity and make the best use of it.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Karibe Ojigwe, the President of Karibe Ojigwe Foundation, stated that the essence of organizing such training is to ensure that more youths are meaningfully engaged.

Speaking to FactNewsonline, Ojigwe disclosed that several youths are out of job because they don’t know exactly what to do.

“Most youths are out of job because they don't know exactly how to keep themselves busy. As an Abia youth, I feel it is time to give back to the society,” he said.

He added that the decision to collaborate with the Ministry of youth development came as a result of the Foundation’s core values.

“We didn’t just start this now, we’ve been around for years, but each year we think about how we can help our youths in terms of skill acquisition; in terms of being focused; in terms of giving them empowerment. This is why we decided to partner with the Ministry of youth Development.

“This is not the first empowerment program our foundation is organizing. In the past, we have organized free medical care in rural communities, we have also organized inter-school sporting competition in partnership with the Ministry of Education. We hope to do more in the nearest future,” Ojigwe said.

On what participants stand to benefit from his foundation, Ojigwe has this to say:

“After this event, we already have names of participants, we will do a follow-up on them. Those who decided to start up businesses with what they’ve been taught will be financially empowered.”

Guest speakers at the event includes; Chief security officer to the Governor, SP. Emeka Ubani, who spoke on Youth and community policing, Deacon Uche Awah;Head of operations, Zenith Bank. He spoke on Brand, Branding and Re-branding. Others are miss Faith, and Iyke Enwere.
