The Abia State House of Assembly has expressed their unrelenting and unalloyed support for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, following the issuance of certificate of Return to Uche Ogah by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike who led the delegation said it received with shock the judgement of the Abuja Federal High Court presided over by Justice Okong Abang ordering the Governor to vacate office and INEC to issue certificate of Return to the Second runner up of the states PDP primaries, Uche Ogah. More shocking he said was the hasty issuance of the Certificate of Return to Uche Ogah, contrary to the Constitution of the land where "a stay of execution", and "appeal" has been issued to the appropriate bodies.

Rt. Hon. Martins stated that the Abia House of Assembly Condemns in its entirety the two acts, and noted that the mandate of the people cannot not be taken through the back door. He insisted that the INEC had the right to issue the certificate to whoever at the expiration of the open window of litigation which was yet to expire.

According to him, the House who has the mandate of the 24 constituencies of the state are solidly behind him and encouraged him to be firm, of good faith and spirit and asked Abians to remain calm as Ikpeazu remains the Governor of the State.

The House further promised to collectively work with him and promised to protect the mandate of the people. He argued that the question begging for answers is why INEC hurriedly issued the certificate of Return in a matter still ongoing and appealed for.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who said he was elated at the support of the House since the inception of his administration, stated that their visit was encouraging.
He lamented that after going through the excruciating pains of the elections and tribunal, it was unfortunate that while the state was about settling down to its economic agenda, it is once again faced with another setback.

Dr. Ikpeazu insisted that his denial of a right to appeal is a denial of his fundamental rights and it is unacceptable.

He said the defendant should face the music of his subsisting court faces than bringing about anarchy in the state.

Governor Ikpeazu emphasized that he would get to the root of the process and expressed confidence in the judiciary to do the right thing.
