A People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant in Delta State, Chief Peter Okocha has promised to ensure that the 13 per cent derivation fund, which is made available for oil producing areas of the country, is used solely for that purpose when he is elected as Governor of the state come 2015.

He was speaking at his formal declaration yesterday to contest for the seat at the Party's Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital. Okocha said he will use his wealth of experience to run a “tenure of prosperity” for all Delta State peoples, adding that good governance will be the driving force of his government.

Okocha avowed to ensure a private sector mentality in the governance of the oil-rich state. He boasted that his ambition is the birth of a new dawn which will impact positively on the economy of Delta.

According to him, health, education, industrialization, agriculture and peace-building, among other things, will be his areas of concentration. Also on his blueprint is the appropriate remuneration of state's civil servants while building on the legacy of incumbent Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

The governorship hopeful used the opportunity to reveal to his audience that he did not petition Uduaghan in court rather "the fraudulent process that characterized the election". Okocha had been in court from 2007 - 2009 challenging the 2007 election that produced Governor Uduaghan. His prayer was for him to be declared governor, positing that he was illegally excluded from the race.
